Protesting Youths Shot By Police, Rivers NYCN Alleges

...As Chairman, Rivers State Chapter, NYCN, Chijioke Ihunwo, Others Arrested

The National Youth Council of Nigeria(NYCN), Rivers State chapter has alleged that Police Officers on Tuesday shot three youth who were protesting peaceful in front of Government House against the planned impeachment of Sim Fubara, Governor of Rivers state.

Comrade Ikechukwu Wordu, Chief Protocol Officer of NYCN in Rivers state who called our reporter on phone said he was among 150 youths arrested in front of the State Government House, and taken to Old GRA Police.

Mr Wordu called on the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria, Ahmed Tinubu and other well meaning citizens of the country to come to their aid describing the alleged harassment and arrest of peaceful youths by the Police as the height of recklessness by the law enforcement agency saddled with the responsibility of maintaining peace and stability.

The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe Koko was yet to the respond to the allegation made by the NYCN. As at press time, reports had it that the arrested Youth were being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department( SCIID), Port Harcourt.

Unconfirmed reports also had it that Chijioke Ihunwo, Chairman, Rivers State Chapter of NYCN has also been arrested and detained by the police. Information about his arrest and subsequent detention was scanty as at press time.
