Ex-Police DPO’s House Set Ablaze

…As Gunmen Kill Two

Members of disbanded OSPAC (local vigilance) group in Obelle town in Emohua Local Government Area allegedly set ablaze the house of Chief Israel, an ex-Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Nigerian Police.

Chief Anele who was a former acting Chairman of Community Development Committe (CDC) of Obelle Community in a telephone interview with our reporter alleged that the disbanded OSPAC led by one ‘Naked Wire’ who was recently accused by the Emohua LGA Boss,Dr.Chidi Lylod of being responsible for the violence in Ibaa and Obelle town.

Chief Anele revealed that the arsonists who came at about 4pm dragged out his 70-year-old aunt out of the building, removed all the burglary proof in the building before pouring petrol and setting the 7 bedroom flat ablaze.

The ex-Divisional Police Officer said his only offence was that he insisted on justice on  the killing of his younger counsin, Darlington Worahu,a serving Nigerian soldier who was killed allegedly by disbanded OSPAC officials on the 5th of March,2022 at Obelle community and ensured the transfer of the case from Rumuji Divisional Police headquarters to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID).

He said he has been receiving threats from members of the disbanded OSPAC due to his resolve to follow up the matter.

Chief Anele also disclosed that he fled the state after the members of the disbanded OSPAC trailed him to his house in Port Harcourt.

The retired Police Officer revealed that he has also called the DPO of Rumuji Police Division on phone but he was asked to come down to the station to make a formal report.

Also there were report of the killing of two persons in Obelle town by gunmen suspected to be cultists last week Thursday.

Our reporter gathered that many residents have deserted the community.

The acting spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, DSP Grace Iringe Koko, was yet to respond to text messages sent to her mobile lines as at press time.

DSP Koko had told our reporter that the Commissioner of Police, CP Eboka Friday had deployed patrol vans to the community last month when two young men were killed in a farm road in Obelle.
