Vigilante Commander Under Police Net Over Armed Robbery
A Commander of a local Vigilante group in Igwurita, Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State has been arrested by the Rivers State Police Command for alleged armed robbery at a border town between an IKwerre community and Imo State.
The Chairman of IKwerre LGA, Samuel Wanosike disclosed this while briefing the Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi Emeka during stakeholders meeting in Port Harcourt.
Mr. Wanosike said the suspect was arrested for murder last year and charged to Court, sent to Port Harcourt Correctional Centre but was released from custody under unexplained circumstances.
Mr. Wanosike pleaded with CP Nwonyi Emeka to ensure that the suspect is charged to court.
Wanosike told CP Emeka that the suspect also attacked Igwurita Police Division when he committed the murder.
Recall that Vigilante members suspected to be OSPAC had attacked Igwurita Police Division in 2020 and freed one of their leaders who was accused of murder.
The police unit where the suspect is being detained was not publicly disclosed.
