Security Chiefs Reiterated Commitment To Secure Oyigbo People

In furtherance of the efforts to foster adequate security of lives and property in Oyigbo Urban, Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers state, the newly posted Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in the area, SP Mary Umanna and Army Commander of the 6 Division, Port Harcourt, Major E. C. Ugorji have pledged their support and commitment to their duties of protecting lives and property of the people in the area.
The security Chiefs stated this over the weekend in Oyigbo during a joint courtesy visit to the Royal Prince of Oyigbo Kingdom (Oyigbo Urban) Prince Oswald Nwaji in his palace.
The security officers reiterated their commitment towards cooperating with community and traditional leaders to ensure that the people and residents of Oyigbo are safe and secured. They also solicited for the cooperation of the people to achieve success.
They used the opportunity to condole the Royal family and indeed Oyigbo people over the sudden demise of their revered king late HRH, Eze, Dr Mike A. Nwaji, Eze Oha Oyigbo Kingdom who recently passed on and prayed for the continued repose of his soul.
In their separate remarks at the event, the indigenous cabinet Chiefs which included chief Ezekiel Iwela, Chief Sunny Anyasor and Chief Alozie Ubani took turns to commend the security officers for according to them “according respect to the palace” and assured them of their own inputs especially in providing useful information for them towards achieving set goals; hoping that their coming will bring sanity and restore security in the area.
The Chiefs disclosed further that they are still mourning their late king who they noted worked hard and left worthy legacies for them which they promised to sustain.
The Oyigbo traditional Chiefs stated further that the replacement of their king will be made publicly in due course after consultation and advised all and sundry to be calm, co-exist peacefully and be supportive of government policies and programmes.
Meanwhile in another development, the Oyigbo Area Council of Traditional Rulers has been reconstituted and inaugurated with the admission of new members to strengthen its leadership.
The newly inaugurated body has HRH. Eze, (Sir) Nwankwo Nwankwo (JP), the Ezeala X of Umuokobo Kingdom as it’s chairman and HRH. Eze Boniface E. Akawor, the Onyenwali XIII of Egberu Kingdom as the Vice chairman
The Council agreed to appoint the occupants of the remaining positions equitably from other zones later.
In his inaugural speech Eze Nwankwo thanked the stakeholders for the privilege of leading the body. He promised not to betray the confidence reposed in him but to carry everyone along in the scheme of things.
He equally promised to use the position to attract peace and development to Oyigbo Kingdom as a whole and endeavour to leave worthy legacies for posterity. He then appealed for the cooperation of all to enable him succeed the task ahead.
