Rivers Assembly Moves To Address Challenges Associated With Accessing Estate Of Deceased Relations
It is usually difficult and in some situations impossible for family members to access the inheritance of their deseased loved ones.
Against this backdrop, the Rivers State House of Assembly has in a bid to address it, given the Rivers State Administration of Estate (Small Estate Payment Exemption) Bill 2023 the second reading.
The sponsor, who is also the House leader, Hon. Edison Ehie, said the bill would address the challenges associated with family members accessing their inheritance following the death of their loved ones.
He further explained that, when the bill becomes law, the requirement will just be for family members of the deceased to request for a certificate to access the estate of their dead loved one.
In his remarks, the speaker, Rt. Hon. Amaewhule, said the house had resolved to commit the bill to the committee of the whole.
In a related development, the bill for a law seeking to amend the Rivers State Public Works and Utilities 2012 has scaled through the first reading on the floor of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The bill which was co- sponsored by the speaker Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule, and the lawmaker representing Bonny state constituency, Hon. Oko Jumbo will be cited as the Rivers State Utilities Protection Amendment Law of 2023 when passed into Law.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the Assembly, led by the speaker, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule has paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Adonye Diri, former member of the House representing Opobo/Nkoro in the 8th and 9th Assembly.
