…10 Feared Dead
Unconfirmed reports say no fewer than10 persons died following a stampede which occurred during the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Rally held at Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, Tuesday.
The reports said the victims who are mostly women, lost their lives as they could not make their way through the only gate left open by security operatives after the ill-fated rally.
Another report traced the tragedy to the insensitivity of the stadium security details who could not throw all the exit points open after the rally.
Yet another anonymous source who said he was present after the rally, said there was rush by the mostly ‘hired crowd’ to share their ‘peanuts’, at that stadium, hence the stampede.
It would be recalled that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) successfully held the State Presidential rally at the same venue on Monday, with Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, his Vice, Peter Obi, National PDP Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus and other party chieftains in attendance.
