Abandon Baby: Rivers NAWOJ Laments, Describes Act As Inhuman
The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, (NAWOJ), Rivers State chapter, has described the abandonment of a new born female baby in a refuse dump at Mile 3, Diobu axis of Port Harcourt, as inhuman, appalling and barbaric.
The association made the condemnation while reacting to the news of the shocking discovery of the baby reported to be less than six hours old in a refuse dump.
Led by the chairperson , Susan Serekara-Nwikhana, NAWOJ swiftly paid a visit to the Port Harcourt Children’s Home, Borokiri, where the baby was reported to have been sent, and wondered why a woman would abandon her baby in such manner after nine months of pregnancy.
NAWOJ further explained that the most appalling of this ugly development was that most of these babies who were thrown away in this manner may not have been still born or born prematurely.
Addressing newsmen on the purpose of their visit to the Port Harcourt Children’s Home, the chairperson of NAWOJ Rivers Chapter Sussan Serekara-Nwikhana said it was to identify with the child, express NAWOJ’s concern over the baby’s well-being, support and assure the caregivers of the association’s commitment towards the upbringing of the child.
You will recall that in the early hours of Friday the 28th of April, 2023, members of a vigilante group rescued a new born female child at a refuse dump in mile 3, Diobu.
The baby who was wrapped with clothes and abandoned to die, was still carrying her placenta when she was discovered.
