Angered by the comments credited to the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Council, David Rogers Irimagha, Rivers State House of Assembly has asked him to appear before its Committee on Transport.
The House took the resolution while considering a motion for urgent review of security measures along the Bonny waterways as presented by Hon Abinye Pepple.
The Council boss had gone on air saying that he has not sighted any of the gunboats procured by Governor Wike on the waterways.
Speaker of the Assembly who berated the Local Government chairman over the comments he made on radio invited him to appear before the transport committee and explain what contributions he has made to remedy the security situation in the area as chief security officer of the council
He described his comments as indictment on his own part, especially as he failed to tell the public his own efforts in interfacing with the security agencies with regard to insecurity in his domain including Bonny waterways.
Earlier, the member representing Bonny Constituency while presenting his motion has narrated the challenges faced by his constituents especially on the water ways.
He disclosed that apart from the fact that boats are hijacked, properties of passengers are also stolen and called on the Assembly to rise to defend his constituents
“Four boats were spontaneously attacked, properties hijacked, Mr speaker that memory is agitating our people, that memory is causing a lot of ripples in our constituency, beware, that the Nigeria LNG would soon commence their train 7, we cannot allow that waterway to be subjected to all manner of attacks by unpatriotic characters ravaging that territory with impunity”, Abinye noted.
The lawmaker who prayed the House to condemn the insecurity in the area, requested for the immediate dispatch of security apparatus to the Bonny water routes and asked the Rivers State Government to enforce the anti Kidnap law passed by the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The motion was committed to the House Committee on transport.
