Shun Violence, Participate In INEC Voters Registration, Sen Maeba Tells Khana Youths

Worried over the spate of violence and acts of criminality in parts of Khana Local Government Area, an Ogoni leader, Sen. Lee Maeba,  has again appealed to the youths of the area to embrace peace for development to take place in the area and Ogoni at large.

Sen. Maeba who gave the advice while meeting with the Community Representatives  of National Mandate Group at his residence on Sunday, also cautioned all residents of the area, including those doing businesses, against restiveness in the various communities.

The Senator who represented Rivers South East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, explained that the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike and the LGA Chairman, Hon. Thomas Bariere are working assiduously  to ensure there is total peace and security in Khana Local Government Area, adding that the only way they can succeed is for the people of the area to  commit themselves to the peace process.

The Ogoni leader said the figures emanating from the ongoing  Continuous Voters Registration do not represent actual population of Khana people, because eligible voters cannot come home to register or revalidate  due to fear of insecurity in the local communities. 

Also speaking, the Chairman Central Coordinating Meeting of the National Mandate Group, Dr. Leloonubari Nwibubasa, said that the group has coverage in all the communities in Khana local government area, and that they will continue to reach out to the people in all nooks and crannies of the area to sensitize and mobilize them to register in the ongoing registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission. 

On the issue of insecurity, he disclosed that a committee has been set up to facilitate and enthrone peace in all troubled communities to ensure safety of all potential participants in the registration process, including those in the communities and indigenes coming home to register without fear of being attacked and killed.

He further said that the essence of the gathering was to make sure that Khana communities are safe, secured and peaceful, so that more people will feel free to register and also invest meaningfully in the area.
