Rivers Speaker Describes 8th Assembly As Democratic

The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi Owaji Ibani, has described the 8th Assembly as one that is democratic in all its dealings.

He dropped the hint at the end of the plenary, while reacting to the statement made by the member representing Ahoada East Constituency One, Hon. Martins Manna, alleging that the House was planning to suspend him.

He also emphasized that every member of the Assembly, including Hon. Martins Manna, is elected to represent his people and should not be afraid to speak.

According to Mr Speaker, the beauty of democracy is for people to be allowed to express themselves freely.

Meanwhile, the House has deferred debate on the 2019 appropriation law to next legislative day.

This followed a motion on the floor of the Assembly as moved by the Majority Leader, Martin Amaehwule, and seconded by the Minority Leader, Benebo Anabraba

Speaker, Ikwuiyi Owaji Ibani, after the motion, relied on order 50 of the House to defer debate to any other legislative day, as would be scheduled by the House Committee on Rules and Businesses.
