Omudioga Ancient Kingdom Celebrates Departed Monarch

The Omudioga Ancient Kingdom in Emohua LGA of Rivers state recently celebrated the Life and Times of their departed Monarch, late HRH/His Eminence (Amb) Eze Dr. Godwin Chinyere Onyeka (JP), Nyenwe Eli Omudioga Kingdom who reigned for 45 years and transited in 2018.

The theme of the celebration as presented by the keynote speaker, Eze (Dr) Esezi Obilor Rukani (JP) was: Traditional Rulership: Remembering late Eze (Dr) Godwin Chinyere Onyeka (JP), Nyenwe Eli Omudioga Kingdom.

The event which took place at his palace was chaired by Chief (Dr) Peter Didia, Eze Akaire I of Apani. The Special guest of honour was the President General of Ogbakor Ikwerre Cultural Organization Worldwide, HRM, King Barr Onuekwa, and Dr John C Ogbuigba as guest speaker.

They remembered the late monarch as a unique administrator, imbibed with special intelligence and the wisdom of God which enabled him to uphold the rule of law throughout his reign.

“The late monarch ruled his people with the fear of God and ensured that there was peace, justice and equally during his time”.

He demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to Rulership. A renowned entrepreneur, business strategist and advocate of the less privileged”.

Speaking to newsmen after, one of the late monarch’s sons and heir apparent, Eze (Prof) Sam Ugo Onyeka (JP) who is also a Director of Administration, Ministry of Information and Communication said that his father will be remembered for his peaceful and truthful disposition, and longest oldest king in the state before his demise.

He disclosed that his late octogenarian father was his mentor who transfered the Kingship and Rulership of the kingdom to him in 2016 before his transition in 2018 and assured that he will not deviate from his tutorship when he eventually takes over at the recognition of his incumbency by the performing Governor of the State.

Eze, Prof Onyeka recalled that his late father had always had schedules on daily basis which also confirmed him as a hardworking monarch.

The schedules according to him, include attending to the needs of the less privileged, visitors to the Kingdom, keeping records as well as updating and involving his people with government activities.

Highlights of the event were thanksgiving service in honour of the late Monarch, traditional and women dances, good will messages and traditional wrestling competition to mark the event. It was also announced that the memorial events will continue in the years ahead biannually.
