…As Another Victim Claims 80,000 Extortion
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Emeka Nwonyi has condemned the police assault and brutality of a man in a video trending on the social media.
The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe Koko in a statement last, disclosed that the policemen in the video have been identified and arrested.
SP Koko said they are currently at the Command headquarters undergoing trial for their unprofessional act which will serve as deterrent to other police personnel .
The Rivers State Police Command in the statement appealed to the victim to come forward to the Public Relations Department, Rivers State Police Command to give his own statement so as to aid conclusion of the investigation while assuring that his identity will be protected.
Meanwhile the Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi has assured members of the public, that the police operatives will be investigated in line with extant rules underlying the conduct of police personnel and appropriate sanctions meted accordingly.
The statement added that the is committed to promoting the rule of law in course of it’s operation in the state.
In a related development the Rivers State Police command has opened Investigation into the alleged extortion of 80,000 naira from one Ndubuisi Nick by yet to be identified Police Officers along Airport road in Port Harcourt.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe Koko in a statement on Wednesday 12,July,2023 urged the alleged victim of extortion to come to the Police Public Relations department to make his statement.
Mr Ndubuisi Nick last Monday tagged the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Adejobi Olumuyiwa, the Complaint Response Unit, the Nigeria Police Officer on twitter narrating how he was extorted 80,000 naira after he was tagged an internet fraudster.
Mr Ndubuisi explained that despite the fact that the Police officers did not find anything incriminating on him, the officers took him to a POS stand where they forged him to make a withdrawal of 80,000 naira which the officers collected.
The alleged victim also uploaded a video capturing one of the officers who extorted him.
