Controversy Trails Identity Of Medical Doctor Arrested Over Child Trafficking In Rivers
Controversy is now trailing the identity of Enyinnaya Iheukwumere, aka called Dr. Hagi paraded by the Police over alleged child trafficking as the Rivers State branch of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA).
In a statement by it state secretary, Hope Avundaa said Dr. Hagi is not a registered member of the NMA or any other of its affiliates.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi Emeka in a press briefing last week Thursday said following a case of abduction reported on 9th October, by One Mrs Ijeoma James, 35, in Awalama Rumuokoro, Port Harcourt, that one Mr Promise came into their compound and stole her 4-year-old son, Prosper James, and all efforts to locate her child proved abortive.
CP Emeka disclosed that Police detectives from Special Area division swung into action by means of intelligence led policing, one Mr Ifesinachi Opara was arrested, which also led to the arrest of one Happiness, Enyinnaya Iheukwumere, to whom he sold the child.
The Rivers Police boss stated that further investigation also led to the recovery of three more children trafficked by Dr. Hagi from different locations of the country: three from Benue State, Benedict Kpaaka one year, seven month old, Godgift Julius 4 years old, and one Philomina 6 years old, all rescued from different locations in Port Harcourt where they had been sold.
The Police Boss said further investigation revealed that one Miss Angel Shimeson ‘ 25 years old, from Makurdi still (at large), is the supplier of the children to Dr. Hagi as effort is being intensified to arrest the culprit.
The Commissioner of Police also said that a combined surveillance team comprised of police, civil defense, the Nigerian Army, and some civilian JTF on routine surveillance patrol at Abili Service Integrated Company attached to the Nigerian Agip Oil Company, Ob/Ob Gas Plant Obrikom Onelga Ukpeliede Community in Ahoada-West LGA in Rivers State arrested five suspected Ice-landers cult members who are presumed to have a hand in the death of the late DPO of Ahoada, SP. Bako Angbashim.
He said they were brought to Area Command Omoku with the following items: two locally made guns, three live cartridges, and one wrist charm.
CP Emeka listed names of the suspects, named Ebere Uzorma, aged 35 years who sustained injuries in his last operation at Kumacy Camp in Ahoada West, was rushed to General Hospital Omoku for treatment, where he was confirmed dead by a Doctor on duty.
He stated that the corpse was deposited at the same General Hospital Mortuary Omoku for autopsy, while the five arrested suspects, namely, Bestman Friday, Agbani Samuel Uchendu, Abraham Ede, are in police custody for detail investigation.
In the meantime, the Homicide Division of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Port Harcourt has taken over the case of Justina Otuene, a 300 level student of Biochemistry of UNIPORT allegedly murdered by Damian Okoligwe.
Our correspondent gathered the development followed the transfer of the case from Ozuoba Police Division to SCIID on the directives of Commissioner of Police Rivers state.
CP Emeka had while parading the murder suspect said operatives of Ozuoba Division received a complaint from a good Samaritan and neighbor name withheld of Road 20, back of NTA Ozuoba that he went to his house where one his co- tenant perceived a very bad odour and immediately rushed to the police station, where the DPO led detectives to the scene.
He said on arrival, the door was forcefully opened, and a Ghana must-go bag containing a lifeless body was recovered, back to the station while the boyfriend of the decease, Okoligwe 24yrs old, a petrochemical engineering 400 level student of Uniport boyfriend of the victim, occupant of the house, now the prime suspect who was traced last with the decrease was arrested for an inquiry while the lifeless and butchered body of Miss Otuene was recovered and deposited at the mortuary.
