My Philanthropy Predates Politics, Ekele Umejuru Declares At Garden City Advancement Award
Multiple Award recipient and staunch member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Prince Ekelechukwu Kelvin Umejuru has declared that acts of kindness and selflessnesswere inborn in him, long before his venture into politics.
Speaking at the Garden City Advancement (GACA) Award on Sunday night, where he was honoured for ‘Philanthropy and Community Development Building’, the business tycoon said he felt fulfilled just putting smiles on the faces of people.
The CEO of En Global Services Nigeria Limited, who recently bagged The Golden Heart Award from a foreign media organization, said part of the reasons for going into politics is to leverage from such platform to reach out to more indigent members of society.
“I started doing these way back in my days at the then Rivers State University of Science and Technology. Even as I do not get much for myself,I had this penchant of looking at others around me, whether they have had something to eat, are they wearing good clothes and stuffs like that.
“Because God blessed me with a well to do home, I felt there is a standard of living, and when people are not privileged to meet up with these standards, I try to do the bit I can to assist. Honestly, I felt the way a fish would feel out of water, if I am not showing kindness to people around me”, he stated.
“If by God’s own mercies, I find myself in government, I would want to use the platform to build capacity which includes people as well as infrastructures”, he said.
Prince Umejuru who has garnered no less than ten awards from notable civil society and non-governmental groups, promised to continue in act of philanthropy, saying that such act is the best way to appreciate the goodness of God towards his life.
He thanked the organizers of the Garden City Advancement Award for their bold step, recognizing and appreciating those whose efforts have contributed to the advancement of Port Harcourt and the state at large.
“As I have always said when I receive awards, it is a call for greater works. I would not relent in well doing, because it is not only inborn in me, it is also an injunction from the All mighty God”, he said.
