Abara Community Elects New CDC Executive

Abara Community in Etche Local Government Area has put in place new Community Development Committee (CDC), Executive to take charge of affairs in the community for the next four years.

The officers emerged through an election concluded last week at Abara Community Town Hall.

In the election, Aaron Opurum emerged chairman, while Ikechi Amadi was elected secretary.

Other members of the CDC are; Stephen Njoku – PRO, Godspower Anaele – Financial Secretary and Frank Ozoemene – Treasurer.

Speaking to journalists after the election, the CDC chairman, Aaron Opurum said his administration would work towards bringing peace and unity in Abara Community, stressing that if there was no peace, progress and development will elude the community.

“One of my focus of attention will be how to bring peace and unity in Abara. I will unite the people for the purpose of bringing development in Abara community,” he said.

He also promised to minimize Herders/farmers clashes in the community by liaising with security agents.

According to him, a peace committee was already on ground in Etche to work out modalities on how to stop farmers/herders clashes and prevent destruction of crops and raping of community women.

One other issue that bothers the chairman is drug abuse by the youths of Abara. He said too much drug taking has ruined the lives of many youths and promised to tackle the menace.

Opurum also told journalists that he will open up access roads and empower the youths by liasing with companies operating in Abara Community.    

He thanked the traditional rulers and chiefs of Abara Community, particularly, Eze Jona Nwala, paramount ruler Abara Community and High Chief Hon. Emma Nwaobilor – the Omezuru Oha I of Igbo Agwuru Asa Kingdom for finding him worthy to serve as chairman of the community and promised not to disappoint them.
