The Chairman of Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State, Hon. Mbakpone Okpe, has commissioned the new Police Station and the new Tai Local Government Area office of the Directorate of State Services with the assurance that his administration is determined to provide security for his people.
Performing the commissioning ceremony on Friday December 17, 2021 at Saakpenwa, the headquarters of the local government area, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Rivers State chapter, Amb. Desmond Akawor, gave kudos to the chairman for working in tandem with the state governor.
He said that right from the onset, he was very optimistic that Hon. Okpe would perform very well, noting that the project was a big boost to the security agencies.
Amb. Akawor said when he assumed office as the PDP chairman, he thought his duty would be just to receive decampees into the PDP fold but the set of chairmen in the Wike-led administration has always occupied him with commissioning of projects at all time adding that they have a good team working for the people of the state.
Sir Peter Medeh and Chief Monday Mgbor in their separate speeches said that the Hon. Okpe led administration has done well for the security agencies to combat crime and criminality.
They noted that for Hon. Okpe administration to build such an edifice for the security agencies he had demonstrated that he wants crime to be totally eliminated in the area and urged him to do more.
The Gbenemene Tua Tua Tai, HRH Mene Samuel Nnee, in his remark assured the security agencies of their cooperation in fighting crime but begged the police not to let go of any criminal caught but should rather face the law.
The monarch said that the greatest challenge confronting the country is security, but Hon. Okpe has shown that his administration meant well for the people of Tai.
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Friday Eboka, who was represented by the deputy commissioner of police commended the council boss for putting such an edifice for the police and the DSS, saying the chairman has demonstrated his firm commitment and ability to safeguard the lives and property of everyone in Tai.
He said for any meaningful development to take place anywhere, there has to be peace and security, adding that the good people of Tai Local Government Area are peace-loving people that is why they always associate themselves with the security agencies.
He assured that the gesture will further boost the morale and capacity of the police and the DSS, saying it is an attestation to the efficacy of the Hon Okpe-led administration.
Hon. Mbakpone Okpe, the chairman of Tai local government council expressed great joy that his administration has delivered such a great project to boost the security agencies and appealed to the commissioner of police to increase the number of personnel, service vehicles and equipment in the Tai Division for their formations, noting that the Tai Police Division is currently having only 35 officers and men, which he says is grossly inadequate to handle the increasing wave of criminality in the area.
He also appealed for the establishment of a police post at Nonwa to cater for the security needs of the area due to the distance from the new station, adding that accommodation has already been provided for it at Nonwa.
According to him, he draws his inspiration from the achievement of Governor Nyesom Wike who has constituted the culture of commissioning projects across the state, pointing out that when his administration came on board, they discovered that the present Police Station has been paying rents, since it was established 30years ago and no longer conducive for the officers and men working there while the DSS in the area has also been operating from makeshift apartments unfit for effective operations.
He explained that it was due to the poor conditions of service of the security operatives and his desire to improve the security architecture in the local government made him to pursue it in his first 100 days in office.
