We’ll Immortalize Late Emeritus Prof. Ahiauzu – VC

…He Was One Of Best Administrators – Prof. Monsi

The Vice Chancellor of Rivers State University, Prof. N.S. Okogbule, has said that the university is considering immortalizing the memory of Late Emeritus Prof. Augustine Ahiauzu, who was a former Vice Chancellor of the university.

Speaking with reporters after a special Convocation on Thursday held in honour of Late Emeritus Prof. Ahiauzu at the university premises, the Vice Chancellor said: “We are thinking about doing a lot of things for him as a university in remembrance of the services he rendered to this university”.

Describing the deceased, the Vice Chancellor said that he was hardworking and committed to the service of the university, adding that he put in his all in the process of serving not just the university but humanity in general.

He also said that he mentored those who were now Professors and others who hold key positions in government both in Rivers State and the federation.

Prof. Okogbule said he wants younger professors to learn humility, hardwork, understanding and quality of being humane from the late Prof. Ahiauzu.

In consoling the family he said they should look up to God and link up to the virtues left behind by the deceased.

Also speaking, Prof. Alex Monsi of the Faculty of Agriculture said that the deceased was one of the best administrators the university ever had describing him as an erudite Professor.

Prof. Monsi said: “He did so much for this university. I would say that anything that you can see on this campus was either done by him or was part of his thought process”.

He said Late Emeritus Prof. Ahiauzu rose through the ranks to become head of the university saying that he played roles in the overall development of the university.

Talking about him, Prof. Monsi said: “He was an icon. He was a wonderful academic, very friendly, very humorous and was friend to everybody both staff and students”.

He said that the deceased would always live in the memory of both the staff and students of the university.

On Thursday, the university held a special convocation in honour of the late former Vice Chancellor in which the current Vice Chancellor had constituted the Assembly as special Convocation in honour of the deceased.

There was a citation on the Late Emeritus Professor by the Orator of the university as well as Oration by the Vice Chancellor.

There were as well tributes from those at the special convocation.
